Beta

My own image from unity

My project this week was more or less finishing up and adding in a few extra game mechanics that I was happy with, but I have run into two problems finishing up my game, which I would consider game breaking.

My first issue is that when the enemies are chasing after the player, they morph into each other after a while and become one enemy. I have tried box colliders and rigid bodies, but nothing seems to make them solid at all.

And my second issue is that my player has the ability to climb over objects and sometimes climb up the map walls if I run into them constantly, which is a problem that I have tried to fix and do research on, but nothing seems to be working unfortunately.

Apart from those issues my game has actually come along well and I have enjoyed working on it every week as it has been very enjoyable to do and of course there is more that I want to do with my game like character models , Scenery etc but I have so many assignments to do outside of multimedia so I am happy with At least getting the game mechanics down so if I can At least fix the two issues I talked about above then I would be happy with the outcome of my game because At least all of my mechanics are functioning properly.

Once I've resolved these two issues, I'll be able to record my 1-minute video of all of my projects, and maybe even after I finish this semester, I'll add more to my game because there's so much more that I'd like to do.

Unity Tutorial 10

For this week's unity tutorials, what I wanted to include in my game for the player is a flashlight that the player holds and light comes out of it to guide you through the level and so you can see the zombies that are chasing after you.

I researched quite a bit for this tutorial and ended up finding a nice and straight-forward tutorial on this YouTube video. My main aim for finding this tutorial was to find something that wasn’t so complex and one that I could at least learn from and somewhat understand because there are some tutorials that have too many complicated things, and considering I’m new to unity, I don’t see the point in doing complex tutorials that I don’t really understand, because I want to at least learn things when I do tutorials.

Overall, the tutorial ended up being a success and ended up looking great in my game and gave me the exact look that I wanted. It didn’t take too long to do, which is always a bonus because sometimes unity tutorials can be very annoying and take up a lot of time, and it’s always nice to do new tutorials and just see all the more that you can do in unity because there’s so much to learn and do in it.

Games Testing

Image from cheeseorfont.com

This week's reading task was all about play testing games and how to go about it. A lot of the tips I actually already used during my game creation for my project. Play testing shouldn't be done only at the end of your game. I believe that play testing should be done throughout your creation, like when you have the main game mechanics down and then later on when you add new ones to see if they all work as intended, because that’s the main part of play testing. It's identifying problems that your game could have and then going through possible problems and fixing them the best way you can. Giving other people the ability to test your game is a great way of getting either feedback about the game or fixing game-breaking problems or mechanics. I like play testing because not only does it save you time at times, it can also teach you new things about fixing some game problems that you run into and can give you a better game development and design experience and make you better at putting yourself into the players' perspective, which is one of the main things to be doing, especially when game designing, as I have learned through precious reading tasks over this semester.

I actually learned about some things to do with my project with unity on this YouTube channel so the video during this reading task was very informative as I believe he explains things very well and you end up learning quite a good amount of information when watching his videos which is always a plus.

I enjoyed reading through this article as it went through 7 game testing techniques that are very useful and also went through some big risks in game testing which again was very informative.

Unity Tutorial 09

For my project, I wanted to give my player basic movement options in the game and there were certain techniques I remembered but some that I didn't, which is understandable because it is hard to remember everything from Unity, especially being new to it, so I chose a YouTube tutorial on basic player movement for beginners. I didn't want to search for anything complex because I wanted to learn and revise what I have potentially already done through the unity tutorials. The person in the video explained it very well and went through it step by step, and I actually learned quite a lot from it rather than just copying and pasting things and not getting any learning experience at all. My goal for my project overall is to actually learn about my capabilities in unity and also learn new methods and techniques to further my skills in unity, because I am still new to unity and there’s so much that I have to learn and master, so this project has taught me a lot, and that’s why I’ve enjoyed it so much. Being able to add our own things into it and look up help videos when we are stuck is very helpful and a great learning experience overall.
