Project Progress

This week is the final project task for my 2D game that I created and called Knight trials I had a lot of fun creating a 2D game as it was new to me because I had only worked in 3D unity before so it was interesting to see the differences between them and having an understanding about how 2D games function compared to 3D games I will admit some parts of creating my 2D game was tough but I persevered and got it done and I am happy with my end result I created a game trailer for my game which I enjoyed doing and now it’s all done overall this 2D game was fun and interesting to make I have learned a lot using unity from this module and I am happy with what I have learned so far I feel like coding is something that you constantly need to learn and will take a long time to master but to Atleast get the basics down you can then progress to learning more complex coding to achieve more in unity but what I have learned so far has been great and I feel in the future I look towards expanding my knowledge in unity or even game design in general because it’s something I am very interested in and want to keep learning more and more about so I enjoyed making my game and I am happy with how it turned out.

Doing : Reading 12

So this is the last reading task for multimedia development semester 2. I have finished all of my book chapter and added all the finishing touches necessary by reflecting on feedback given to me by my peers and finding out how to improve by doing some research online. I have to say that I have enjoyed this book making process. I'm not really into writing books or book chapters but it’s enjoyable when it’s a topic that you have an interest in because you can end up learning a lot from it or taking an interest in the topic even more than before. The whole process of the creation of my chapter was good and organised considering we had week by week tasks to do for our book, so I was constantly adding and improving things in my book. I like having a plan or a schedule knowing when I will get things done as it helps by keeping me motivated and doing different things every week for my book chapter. It was also helpful receiving feedback and giving feedback by looking at my peers' chapters and giving honest and somewhat critical feedback. Overall, I enjoyed creating my chapter for the book and look forward to seeing all of our chapters come together to create the book. I had fun during this module of this semester completing the reading tasks and finally having a finished chapter of the book.

Project Progress

For my project task this week it was really all about finishing up my 2D game and adding in the final touches for next week when I present my game and create a trailer for it so this week one of the main tasks that I did was adding in the graphics for my game I wanted to go with a medieval vibe and atmosphere because my game is based on a knight, so it only makes sense. What I did was search for free unity assets on the unity asset store and downloaded a package which I then imported into my unity project. After that, I created a tile map and got to work on adding tiles to my project and making it how I wanted with all the different tiles that were available from the package that I downloaded.

Soon after making the game look how I wanted, I decided to add in some music to my game to create more of an atmosphere and feeling when playing it, so I then researched on the unity asset store again for free music tracks that I could add into my project and when I found a suitable package, I downloaded and imported it into my project, which I then added into my game. With having all of these things completed, I finally think that my game is ready and is fully playable. Yes, there are way more things that I wanted to add, but this is what I have done within the time that I have had and I am more then happy with what I have made and I look forward to presenting my game and also creating a game trailer for it in next week's tasks. Overall, so far I have enjoyed creating my game and I look forward to finishing up and finalising it during the next week of tasks.

This weeks first coding task was about the Delta time function which i remember using during some of the unity tutorials making games and was good to watch a video on how it works just gaining more knowledge on it because I didn’t fully know everything on what it does so this was a good coding task to do.

OnMouseDown

For the second coding task this week it was about the OnMouseDown function which i don’t think I have actually ever used before so this was new to me which I enjoyed because as I have been saying i want to keep expanding my knowledge of coding so I try to pick coding task I would like a recap on or ones I have never heard of before so this was good to learn about.

Doing : Reading 11

This week's reading task was all about adding the finishing touches to my chapter of the book, which overall has turned out well. I completed my chapter based on feedback and research online, as my chapter flows well and is laid out in a good way to keep the reader interested and engaged. I feel with our weekly tasks, we were always adding different things into our chapter every week, which made it a lot easier to complete, as we done some things weekly so it has all come together now, which is great. I am happy with how my whole chapter has turned out and I feel the feedback I was given sounds like my peers also enjoyed my chapter, which is always a plus. So overall I enjoyed making my chapter of the book. The topic that I did I have always had an interest in so it was great to learn more about it and look more in depth as I never got the opportunity before, so now I have learned a lot about my topic on top of learning how to create a good book chapter. I enjoyed the process of creating my chapter and have also enjoyed seeing everyone chapters come along as it was nice to see how people went about the layout etc.

For the project task this week, it was all about having my first playable for my project put together, which I did, and my game is going well so far. I switched up a few things compared to last week, so at first I wanted to make my 2D game a top down view, but I then decided to go with a platformer like the likes of Super Mario Bros. because I liked the idea of it and wanted to try it, so I made my first playable I put my character into my game and gave it the ability to move left and right, as well as jump around and turnaround. I gave the player all of the movement options necessary for my game. I then created platforms for the player to jump on. As it’s the first playable created, I wanted to focus on player movement and a basic level design to start as my foundation. Then during the next few weeks, I will add in more level design and gameplay mechanics etc, but so far my game is going well and I am enjoying the creation of my 2D game and am excited to see how it turns out as I improve it over the coming weeks. Creating a 2D game so far I have noticed it is much easier than a 3D game in some aspects, which I like because that means I can focus a lot more on my ideas and how I want the game to function while also being able to polish my game and make it what I want and how I want it to look. It’s cool to see the differences in game creation on Unity comparing 2D to 3D and what differentiates them from one another in terms of how they are made and how different they look. I have always liked 2D in terms of the retro cartoon side, and 3D is, of course, more modern and has a better graphical look and a lot more perspective. My game so far is going well, and I am enjoying the process.
